It turned out that the bike was insured by payment protection on my credit card! Woohoo!
New bike purchased. Back on it tomorrow.
Looking forward to seeing the canal again but not too sure about cycling along it in the dark ... although i've got some mega lights!!!
.... the muggers will definitely see me coming! ... :(
